I saw instances where people made art and used some help from AI (like "ABM - Im Shooting Star" that openly credits Nano Banana and Hailuo in making background imagenary and nothing else). So I like to think about generative AI (in given context) as synthetic collaborator.
Such perspective helps to see problem with promts - promting AI is like promting your friend - qualifications (if any) belong to friend. It's close to microwave analogy, but I'd argue comparing AI to artificial lifeform makes point more obvious. I mean, even if microwave doesn't make you chef, tools are considered as fine to use; but claiming other's work as yours is ridiculous by many.
Though it's interesting to think where is the line between tool and synthetic agency.
The notion of "AI artist" comes from confusion and total misuse of AI. I heard somewhere point that current state of AI is not a problem with AI technology in general (though current way to "train" AI is... suboptimal to say the least) but a problem with society and humanity in general which socioeconomic model was not ready for such advancement in technology.
