I think the piece everyone is missing is that AI and other technology is in the hands of the public. This democratization has the greater chance of destroying us not through one big disaster but through the eroding of society. I wrote a fictional book called "Omniviolence" which deals with this. Per Yoval Harari, science fiction is how most people are exposed to science and it is through this that we might be able to educate people on the implications of our actions. SciFiNow called my book "a brutal unflinching dive into a tech-driven nightmare". A discussion on DOAC from this perspective would be interesting.
