You're correct that current models will never lead to AGI. However, the models aren't simply going to be left as they are and run on higher performance GPUs. The next 2-3 generations of AI models which are being trained in the next 2-3 years only use an LLM as a fraction of their overall architecture, and are much more complex and refined than this. So yes, you're totally correct about current models hitting a wall, however those in the field are not simply "throwing more money and compute at it", at least not the real nerds who write the actual code and do the actual work. The execs will always say stupid things because they don't really know anything about anything as we all know.
