Imagine if the Earth gets taken over by AI and the remaining humans flee to space. Then due to no humans keeping up with the robots and AI all of the technology breaks down an earth reverts back to a primal state. On top of that the humans that escaped to space would likely undergo evolution in a unique way. Now pretend all of that already happened a million years ago and what we identify as aliens are actually just the escaped humans who evolve differently
