I began my own art journey a few years ago, just before I turned 40. I remember drawing as a kid, like we all did, but stopping when I saw someone else my age make something far beyond my skill level. I was by no means talented, and was merely copy drawing at best, so for 30+ years I just gave it up.
Due to circumstances beyond my control, I was left with a ton of free time and nothing to do, so on a whim I bought a sketchpad and watched a few YouTube tutorials and tried it out again. My art looked like something a five year old would make, but the note I kept trying, the better it got. There would be times I would just get lost in the process then look away from the pad for a minute and be absolutely floored at what I was looking at. Yeah, it was still unrefined, basic, and looked like a kid made it. But it was mine, it was something that I made. This sensation is amazing, and keeps happening the more practice I put in and the more pieces I make.
Most people who thing art is a talent you're either born with or not do so because they were dissuaded from continuing to draw to try at some point. They don't see the tens to hundreds of hours an artist puts into their pieces, the thousands of sketches, practices and unfinished pieces. They only see the finished product and further feel the gap is unobtainable. But the finished piece if just the final reward, the journey to get there is the most fulfilling part, and using AI robs them of that.
If you've read my whole post, and haven't tried, please give it a go. Pick up the pencil and spend some time giving it a try. Skip the next game you wanted to play, TV series you wanted to binge, and instead, try starting an art journey. It's so worth it.
