Using AI to generate an image is like commissioning an artist to make art, except instead of them going through a creative thought process with things like composition, colors, and line weight, they're instead just averaging hundreds of thousands of data points that just happen to be pre-existing images pulled from Google Image Search. Therefore, not only is it impossible to consider someone who generated an image with AI the artist, because you wouldn't consider someone who commissioned art as being the artist of that piece, but it's not even possible to consider the generated image as being art, as the AI is literally just doing an extremely complicated version of what you do in a statistics class. All an AI generation model really knows is numbers come in, numbers correlate to other numbers, other numbers go out
