"They're gonna have to work at mcdonalds now" Oh yeah that'd be nice unfortunately mcdonalds/fast food is now the best possible no-skill job you can get and even they hire using AI now. So no, we can't just get mcdonalds. Nor can we get unemployment, because that requires having had a "REAL" job you were laid off from first, not fired or quit. So we just have no money, savings dwindling, and a lot of wasted time on having become experts at obsolete skills (video editor/musician here) making it even more depressing to try to look for something else, because we were not burnouts who didn't know what we wanted, we knew what it was, worked hard for it and then they took it away. What else is worth learning that they won't just replace in the future? I am a nerd, thinker, creative, nothing else fits me. I was doing what I wanted, long before tiktok made it so easy. When asked what I want to do next to pivot, all the WANT is gone, I just need to find something to pay my basic bills now and keep my skills as a side hobby. And now combine that with all the people who DID have office jobs but are now being laid off, they now enter our competing pool for menial jobs we don't even want, and as everyone is going to be fighting for being a plumber or something, when there's not even enough broken toilets to go around, it is no exaggeration that this is the end of life for many, and some others won't feel a thing.
