I think.the deepfakes thing lacks the political will to address it because it will certainly delve into the free speech thing, and I understand the reluctance to do so. It certainly can set a precedent on image manipulation to create a narrative, ... yeah dank memes. The safer way to approach this pushback against deepfakes is to first address and codify a set of rules on slander, defamation and libel.
