All it takes to understand modern LLMs can't become conscious is a basic understanding of how they work. So it's always completely insane to me the amount of people worried about sentient AI or whatever.
Honestly the amount of people who for some reason trust AI to do any sort of work is shocking. It really shows how little people know about how they work. Telling chat GPT to summarize a wikipedia article is already a task you shouldn't really trust it to be accurate on. But then you have people unironically using them for customer service. There isn't a single LLM in existence that can be trusted to write 2 sentences without just making up nonsense.
