There is a real danger to democracy when the cameras are used on election days. In some countries, the authority in power is known to use ALP image recognition systems and facial recognition to perform intensive enforcement at poling locations in areas where the voters tend to vote for the opposition. Once this is known to the public, the turnout at those poling locations can drop dramatically due to fear, enabling the current authority to stay in power. This apparently has been used very effectively to skew elections in some countries. The government only needs to "accidently on purpose" leak that this targeted enforcement is going on using these cameras near poling places in order to skew the results. Many people know by now that false identifications are common with ALP's general image recognition and also dedicated live facial recognition systems, as has been documented, so the fear among opposition voters can be widespread.
