They do have a default role they'll try to play if you don't beat them up about it, though. When I ask Copilot and Gemini a question initially, they will tend to give me folkish, semi-misleading information information that serves a purpose of comforting people in their biases. I have to specifically ask and push it to give responses rooted in fact as determined by scientists and journalists to get them to give me something focused on delivering the information associated with my question, and not flattering the feelings and prejudices you think someone who asks the question probably has.
