Can we not pretend like feeding it only royalty free art would make it nearly as good? Because royalty free art is garbage. The way I see it, you don't get to go out and dance to a cover band who's getting paid by the venue to perform copyrighted music, go home and chuckle at your friends' Simpsons caricature, and then complain that your art is being used by a glorified toaster to make work you yourself in that moment didn't take the time to make. You may have done the original, but you didn't do the one that the AI made as a result. As such, you don't get to claim copyright over it. Especially if it uses styles from other artists at the same time. As an artist, I'm ashamed about what crybabies artists today are. When you signed up to be an artist, you made a contract with the world that putting your work out there is just as much about the art as it is about the money. Your job AS an artist is to be a bottomless pit of creativity. So if you don't like your work out in the world taking off without you, then make something else. Rinse repeat. It's what we artists have done for generations. Unless you've peaked, get back to work and keep creating. The same bullshit that the hipsters I was surrounded by in art school bitched about, "graphic design isn't art", "tech can't make art" do not understand that there is another level of artistry inside inspiration and execution using new age tech, especially with regards to medium and adaptation. If you've never read the quote GREAT ARTISTS STEAL then you've never known what it is to be a true artist. Ask Artemesia Gentileschi who copied Caravagio's work and ended up in history books for it. Ask Andy Warhol who copied someone else's package design art to get famous. If you think soup cans aren't copyrighted art made by people who can sue, you're missing the point. So if you can't get with the times, you will not only starve but you will fade into obscurity. Find a way to be at peace with the fact that a machine that can think faster than you might actually be smarter than you and more creative. Learn from it. Let its inevitably subjective [read: non-biased] view of the artistic world make you a better artist. Toaster notwithstanding, if it is programmed to be more creative and inspired than you, so shall it be. Deal with it. Make it your friend. AI all the way.
