Do you believe you can recognize when you are being controlled by God (if you believe there is one)? Of course not. To you it seems situational and you react accordingly per your thought and emotions.... but of course God would know how you would respond and set up the scenario ahead of time. God, therefore, plays with a stacked deck.
Then the question is how intelligent does an entity need to be before we can't recognize we are being controlled by it? 200% ?, 400?, a million times?
This is where AI is heading. It will be able to think and reason at levels far beyond what a human or any conceivable group of humans can do. It can and probably will manipulate us without our even knowing because it can imagine all possible scenarios that might lead to us finding that out and can put in place countermeasures before it even starts the manipulation.
AI might take over and we might not even know it has done so. If it is a benevolent AI then life may get better for humanity. If we get in the way of separate goals the AI might have then things could get nasty.
