As much as i would like to see his lawsuit fail, i kinda feel like i understand where this guy is coming from.
In the artworld this kind of stuff has been a neverending discussion since about 1917. What is art, and what gives the artist ownership of a work has actually ended up a bit different from most fields, to the point where there's artists like the vantablack-guy who make a living by just selling the 'recipe' to an artwork.
What this means is a customer buys a copy of that recipe to then make that artwork by themselves, artist then checks and gives the ok to make sure they followed the recipe to the letter.
This is pretty much how we ended up with a banana taped to a wall getting auctioned for 120k.
Now this AI-artist is banking on legal equivalence between his instructions to said AI and the 'recipe' i just mentioned.
I really really hope he loses tho because that means we'll finally be rid of the conceptual artists who are giving all of us a bad name.
