Trucker here. They've been boasting for a long time that our jobs are going to be replaceable but the way i see it is while i do think eventually it'll happen it's not gonna be anytime soon. Places that take deliveries and send product clearly weren't even designed for 18 wheelers in mind much less designed for AI. There's weather issues, sure a truck and drive across Texas and deliver beer but there's much more to driving than that.
There's a ton of construction going on right now across the US. The interstate system is being updated but it's not going to be finished for awhile i'd wager. Also i work at a plant putting trailers in doors and i think that's one of the first jobs trucking will lose to AI. However before the jobs leave i imagine you'll have a trucker in the cab while the AI drives all day and night before it becomes fully automated.
