Just like in the case of painting with the advent of photography, and other similar transitions, there will always be a market for actual visual art, even when the generative AI output becomes completely indistinguishable from it.
Now, proving authenticity of said actual visual art will also become a challenge, but that's a different story. I am tempted to offer blockchain technology as one solution :P
Of course, commercial illustrators are currently screwed. But even in that market, some companies may elect to retain human illustrators as a mark of prestige for their product, since the bespoke human art could easily become a luxury equivalent of the mainstream AI-driven illustration.
