Sam, I have never been so thankful for someone to realize what I’ve been saying this past while. I’ve devoted my life to creating a story, world and characters that represent the human existence myself, so this topic is incredibly important to me. Like you, I will not deny AI holds its place in our world, but art and being an artist is so much more than pretty pictures or a good sounding voice, it’s our ability to project the human experience into fantastical things. Humans are more than muscle and bones protecting our flesh-bean of a brain, and I think nothing exemplifies that more than art. We, and what we make, are a product of our minds. You could go on for hours trying to explain to everyone in the world the psychological or philosophical aspects of being human, and while those are important and insightful, they are not art. They are not able to put our indescribable thoughts and feelings and human existence into a universal language, they are not able to create fantastical and impossible things, and shape them into reality. AI will never be able to replicate the minds that create art, and therefor will never be able to replicate the art itself. Perhaps they will only be able to see Art and it’s human nature, when it is taken away from them by their greed. We seem to have a track record of waiting for that, after all.
