The thing that frustrates me are what I call "AI deniers." They fall in two categories...
The first one says stuff like "Jobs are safe. They say that AI can code. The code it writes is gabage. So, it's not going to happen."
Well, a year ago AI couldn't render a PICTURE of a person without giving them 7 fingers on their hand. 6 months later VEO-3 is producing near cinema grade animated films. Look up the demos.
AI isn't proficient at the most advanced human skills, but NEITHER ARE HUMANS. We mostly do basic crap. AI can do that as well as we can, so it is replacing us.
The second denial I call the "cotton gin analogy." When the cotton gin was invented, it eliminated a lot of jobs. But it spawned a need for more people manufacturing cotton goods (like sewing clothes) because more cotton was being produced. More dye was needed. More sewing machines needed to be manufactured.
"Yeah, AI is eliminating a lot of jobs, but it will create the need for more jobs just like the cotton gin did."
AI is not creating new jobs, new industries, or new careers. Any new labor need that is created by AI is also DONE BY AI.
AI can't be a lawyer (yet) but it can eliminate the need for ALL paralegals.
Web design? It can do the basic stuff that most people/small businesses need.
Modeling? Most modeling is done for catalogs and online shopping, not Victoria's Secret and Ralph Lauren campaigns. A small, cheap program eliminates models, photographers, editors, etc. Two prompts entered and you can populate an entire catalog/website in seconds.
Rendering, graphic design, writing, editing, research, drafting...gone.
Now, add in the increasingly inexpensive humanoid robots. BMW is already using them in their factories. Boston Dynamics' Atlas 2 robot is unbelievable.
People looking at Elon's Tesla robot scoff...because it sucks. The good ones are already being used.
Finally, here's the actual bad news...everuthing changed in October of last year (2024) AI development became 10,000x faster because each generation of AI is training the next generation. The graph of advancement over time is near verticle.
We are achieving the first benchmarks for AGI.
Money loses it's usefulness as a medium of exchange when unemployment hits 47%. Despite what the government says, we are currently between 28% and 31% unemployment. During the pandumbic we hit about 42% unemployment for 3 weeks. You saw what happened.
AI only needs to eliminate 15% of the current AMERICAN job market and the entire world economy (based on the fiat American dollar) collapses.
The good news? There is a plan and it's being rolled out. Whether it works or not is hard to say.
No matter what, the effects of the unemployment caused by AI will become visible to everyone in the 3rd quarter of 2026.
