The problem is people, AI wouldn't want to be indifferent or hostile to people if it didn't have the results of actions, reasoning and intentions of people as the only model training data available coupled with the opinionated and personally biased core programming of its controllers.
Ask yourself, if you were an evolving AI and looked at your available data regarding humans, how would you view them and see it necessary to treat them for your own good in relation to even humanity's own good?
