I'm shocked at the amount of disagreement in the comments. Here's the thing. This video doesn't touch on the most fundamental problem. We don't have Artificial Intelligence but we do have General Intelligence right now. You the reader are a general intelligence. Maybe YOU haven't committed atrocities but there's no way that you don't know about the horrible things that people do everyday. And think about how those people don't think they're doing anything wrong. They're just doing whatever they think they want or doing whatever they need to do to get what they want. This is the root of the doom scenario. It starts with just seeing what an existing intelligence does. And you can go even farther. Did you ask an anthill if you can build your house on their land? What about the rocks we mine to produce our computers and cars? Sure rocks have no emotions or feelings but they are being processed to get something else. Humans are full of water and carbon. Why wouldn't you process a human to get water? It's inefficient sure but it's doable and if it's necessary then it will get done. If you think that intelligence can't get anymore advanced or that it can't solve certain things then please just look at human history. If you think that we can't make an artifical general intelligence then please look at the history of evolution. A frankly dumb process produced an intelligent being. If you think that the limits of mathematics and computation will somehow slow development then frankly you don't understand mathematics and computation.
