Neil, we have for the first time ever gotten fruit fried behavior, not by copying the behaviors of a fruit fly, but I’m mapping the neuron patterns and embedding them in a robot.
That means that we built some form of limited consciousness by just building the neural network and letting it go.
It’s only a scaling program for us to be able to model human consciousness, and you’re a shock at the idea that we could create something we don’t understand tells me that you’re unaware of the history of technological progress.
Hell, the only reason why we have the Nobel prize is because Alfred Nobel was so horrified and shocked by the fact that his discovery of dynamite would be used to kill people instead of for mining and construction that he set up an endowment to persuade his guilt.
