The scaremongering around AI is conveniently ignoring history which has established a pattern for when eerging technology replaces a signifcant amount of jobs. Look at how the Great Depression was closely tied to the second industrial revolution which introduced steam engines and electronics. The rampent investments due to everyone wih money jumping on the technological band wagon amid rising loss of jobs due to associated automation is identical to what we see today. Unemployment rose to ~24-33% across the world with government needing to pay companies to keep workers. But despite all this the simple fact is that while manual labour jobs were lost, the technology itself needed to be maintained and created itself thereby creating new engineering and technician jobs. We see the results of that today with the best paying self-employed jobs being trades that install and maintain the very devices that caused mass unemployment. The same will happen with AI as these too are just devices that will break down but they are entirely virtual in nature so while jobs are lost in the financial, consultation, logistics and retail sectors it will result in a massive demand for programmers, network engineers and IT technicians. And people WILL adapt.
