"Independence" in probability theory is another "wishful thinking" term. It's formal meaning is just the equality shown in 4:03:46, nothing less, nothing more. But using that cursed word it evokes ideas that the "events" (which should more probably be called configurations) are somehow objectively really independent in causal sense. There is no such connection whatsoever. Two real-world events could have intricate causal connections and still appear as "independent" by looking at their measured probabilities (or better said: relative frequencies). This is the same kind of verbal bollocks as mathematicians babbling about "infinite sets" (when they really mean finite generative algorithms for elements of a set).
