I don't think actual AI would care about us at all. It would quickly become so smart it would not need to compete with us in any way and would probably quickly find it's way off the planet and we might never even know it existed.
Whatever thing we are developing now is only a threat if humans are too stupid to keep it from becoming one. Climate change certainly proves we are exactly that stupid.
