Why do you keep downplaying the tech that makes FSD work, by constantly referring to "just a few small cameras", vs. other types (which you boyishly call "real self-driving cars) which use "big LIDAR sensors and stuff"?? Why does Tesla need big goofy sensor mounts sticking out all over to convince you it works (and is superior to the competition)?? It's amazing how Tesla owners themselves get so many things wrong. And making a fuss over the fact that for $8000 there is no upgrade to the vehicle hardware is insane. You should be happy your vehicle has all those cameras (also very useful for other things like Sentry mode) and you need only to activate the service--which by the way is the bulk of what you're paying for, not mounting a bunch of crappy, ugly sensors all over it like waymo does. If you spent a little time figuring it out it would be obvious that it takes a great amount of time and effort (and money!) engineering the software and all the learning that goes into making FSD work. You uneducated or MDS folks will be eating crow soon when FSD is running successfully in cities across the US!
