While I completely agree with everything you mention, the big problem with all this that I see is that AI is now a global problem. Maybe someday you can get laws to change in the US but then you have to worry about other countries that wont care about it making it legal in other countries. I went through a similar problem with a patent of mine and there is just no protection from someone else stealing it in other countries.
