Possibility: The lawyers are lazy and told their client to write the material to submit to the court. The client went to ChatGPT and asked it questions. The client sent the material in and the lawyers submitted it to the court having done absolutely no work whatsoever. I once worked with a lazy lawyer on something and they basically told me to do all the work that was *their* area of specialty and their responsibility. I thought, "What exactly am I paying you for if I have to do all of the heavy lifting?" Lazy lawyers task their clients to do the work that the lawyer is supposed to be doing. I can see someone deciding to "sound lawyerly" and that ChatGPT produces stuff that looks and sounds good enough to fool the lazy lawyer.
