An old friend of mine is graduated from a very prestiged college, has a masters of other prestiged college, over 20 years of experience and is currently working for a big ass company (did a lot of roles but now is head of beta testing), anyways, in early 2025 the company did massive layoffs, cutting all the IT division by around 35%, the suits at the company told them that using AI to code was now an official company policy, and they expect things to be faster and smoother. How is it going? As You expect, the workload increaced a lot, most of the people in there faced very thight deadlines and thinner error margins, my friend in particular says is fucking hell, doing testing became a nightmare, there's a lot of random garbage in the code but if You take it out somehow other stuff stops working, is near to impossible to do proper documentation of anything, and he simply can't blame his team for the mistakes (who did it? AI did), also he did extensive revisions, in the short run this takes extra time to find the errors, but in the long run his notes helped all the other teams to quickly developt solutions so saved a ton of time in the long run and the code was cleaner in the later stages of developtment, but now that simply can't be done, for every error they fix they find 10 more simply because the AI doesn't really know shit, all the supposed time the AI save is wasted fixing the shitty code it generates.
