Apply it to anything else. Is your furniture not designed and crafted by a carpenter. Well no, because they've mostly been replaced. Does that mean all the factories stole their methods of shaping and binding wood, which took time and skill to learn and perform? Did you get each individual screw and bolt in your house crafted by a blacksmith? No. Instead, you got it from a factory which stole all the skills of the blacksmiths and replaced them. What about your clothes. Those were certainly mass produced, using techniques stolen from cloth workers. All of the arguments you made do apply to these groups. If all the carpenters are gone, replaced by machines, who is going to design new furniture? In the end it comes down to the meme. What truly makes it bad faith? What truly makes you different from these people? Why dont they get offered the same protections as you? I personally, dont like to use AI, partially because I think the output isnt that good, but mostly because I like the idea of making things myself. And its the same reason why I wouldnt pay someone else do do it for me either. But what if someone didnt care about either of those? Why arent they allowed use AI, but you are allowed to purchase all the boring mass manufactured furniture (made in polluting factories) that you want because you dont care about making it yourself or the final quality of the work? In the end, Brandon Sanderson, despite you repeatedly using him, does not agree with you, at least not in the clips you showed. He does not believe that you cant use AI, just that you cant pretend that using AI means you created the work. And marking whether a work was created with AI is all you need to do. Let people make an informed decision. Do they want to support something made by AI or do they want to support something made by a real person. The fact that carpenters, blacksmiths and tailors still exist, despite their products being far cheaper when mass manufactured should show you enough that the art industry wont die.
