To defend AI Art: yes it takes existing images that it is given access to legally, so anything within public use will be used as a reference to create images, HOWEVER, it will continue to build upon its OWN database, saving every image it creates and melding even their own art to create new images for the same prompt. To talk about the point of it being being expensive, it is an app dedicated to creating these images, not a website with ads which would make the app overall run worse, these algorithms need to run somewhere and it sure isn't your phone, the computing required for some of these AI could probably melt your phones CPU, it costs electricity on the servers being run to create these images, and your paying for the quality, as how much an AI is getting trained takes real life hours, therefore paying gives you access to a much more refined image. This has been my Ted talk.
