Of course there was the sci-fi book about that by great Polish author.
That’s “Return from the Stars” by Stanisław Lem (1961).
The main character, Hal Bregg, comes back to Earth after an interstellar mission, and due to time dilation, about 127 years have passed on Earth. The world is unrecognizable: thanks to betrization (a universal procedure suppressing aggression and risk-taking) and automation, people practically no longer need to work, living in safety and comfort. Bregg struggles to find his place in this “smoothed-out” civilization and wrestles with a deep sense of alienation.
