The whole issue is very shitty for the creators in general. But thinking about it in the long term scale, this technology helps them as well. People seem to have the fear that AI art is replacing artists, but it couldn't be further from the truth. Basically at the invention of any tool that made art of any kind easier to produce, the fear was that artists where going to be replaced. But what really happened, was that the amount of artists just increased and those who where already great without the technology and could intergrade the tech into their work flow; became better and faster. This is no different, this tool will definitely not replace artists, it will just make it so they can produce art faster and more efficiently, while giving more people access to present new fresh ideas. I'm not saying that the copywrite issue should be ignored, but suing the companies developing this tech seems counter productive to progress in the field of art. Because in the best case, these infringing datasets are removed from use and eventually through commission work, the dataset is rebuilt, maybe even made better because the people making these know better as to what is needed. I see this issue as a mirror to what happened at the birth of electronic music and sampling. Artist where using samples of drum loops and guitar riffs to make original work, created a bunch of new genres of music and revolutionized music as an art form. Some of them got called out for it (man I couldn't stop hearing about daft punks sampling practices when they where getting popular), but in the end, I feel like we as people would have lost a lot more if we could have stopped the illegal use of samples in music.
