All bigger technologies had always big impacts. Language was the first, writing was the 2nd. That seemed to be enough for countless centuries. Then Konrad Zuse came up with his machine and within decades humanity opened pandoras box. AI is already too smart (IQ 200? 300? 1000?) to handle it controlled. Movies like "Matrix" and "Transcendence" are more than visionary.
