The shortest path ain't the fastest path.
Explanation:
If all 69k people use google maps to go home from the same place, and choose the shortest route, they all will be cooked for literal days. Google manages this by analysing real time traffic and splitting you and other users through different, but fastest routes. That route is fastest specifically for you. This also helps save fuel, reduce emmisions and manage traffic without even needing any help from the management and government, even if the route is 10 miles longer.
Waymos and Waymos Maps use a similar approach, plus I think they can communicate with other Waymos.
