He clearly stated his materialistic perspective, which is why he's not very optimistic on humans. I rather be optimistic about it and say that conciousness can't be achieved purely with a material body. Conciousness is a result of a physical body and an espiritual being. Which is why AI can only imitate it but can never achieve the real thing.
