I don’t get people that use AI to do the actual work for them. You know there are ways to use AI as an assistant in doing work without actually doing the work FOR you, right? AI is extremely good at super fast pattern recognition, making it the perfect tool for something like an advanced Ctrl+F tool to find a complex topic in a large document based only on a description of what you need. For example, you can give it the pdf of a book and ask it to find a moment in the book where the author conveys a specific idea, giving you a quote from the provided document. That’s extremely useful for being able to find evidence of ideas you’re trying to defend in an essay if you already know the text DOES defend it, but don’t know the exact page number or quote you’re looking for. I was able to verify information like this by actually discussing the text with my professor before starting on essays, so I confirmed whether or not my ideas would work before even asking AI. But, asking AI should never mean you’re asking it to form your arguments for you. If you don’t even know what idea you want to defend, you’re two steps before ChatGPT should even be considered. It’s all about knowing how to use those tools to SUPPLEMENT your own abilities instead of replacing them.
