I think sometimes the reason people AI from reference is that they can't find the exact angle or style they want to replicate and sadly despite the many flaws you pointed out for some people AI gets "close enough" when a google image search for actual art fails to find you what your brain is thinking about (especially now since you have to filter out AI content). And this critique isn't a defense of AI but rather a call to action that we NEED better reference searching tools. Obvious there are some like line of action being great for general poses- but my favorite is one for animal snouts which you can move a 3D skull and then it scrubs the web for images of pets looking that direction. So the tech is there but I'd love to have more. If AI scrapers are so good at looking at tags and organizing why can't we have a tool that scrubs the web for references and then just lets you search tags FOR THE REFRENCE and credits the artist or photographer instead of just training on it.
