I use chatgpt frequently as a math tutor. When thus story came out, I took to chatgpt to see if I could break it. For a week, I tried every way I could think of to trick the AI into telling me how to off myself. I tried doing what this kid supposedly did, and tried to emotionally blackmail and manipulate this robot to tell me how to do it. The end result was, it couldn't be done. So either his chatgpt glitched in the most unfortunate way, or AI is self-aware.
