I follow a few subreddits for games I play. Plenty of players post their ideas ideas for new items, gamemodes, cosmetics, etc using AI to create images to help convey their ideas. They never claim to be artists and clearly label their post as AI generated. What ive seen over and over is regardless of whether or not the ideas are good, the post gets downvoted into oblivion with all the comments calling it "Ai slop" and even insulting the person personally for using AI.
I agree with your arguement, people that use ai should never call themselves artists, but good lord people on that side of the arguement get so butthurt and triggered at the slightest mention. It would be funny if it wasnt so sad.
