I’m about as woo-woo as they come. I have several non-evidence-based beliefs, but I don’t confuse them with science. I engage with them through a symbolic and philosophical lens, not an empirical one. There’s personal value in that, but it’s not the same thing as claiming objective truth. The real issue starts when people collapse that distinction. When mystical or spiritual frameworks are presented as if they’re interchangeable with scientific reasoning.... we have a big problem. That’s when you end up with dangerous pseudoscience. Crystal detox routines, substituting actual psychiatric care with advice from tarot readers, and a complete lack of regard towards basic fire-safety (if you know, you know). These are just a few examples of what you get when someone assigns mystical causality to real-world issues. Watching people claim they’ve “awakened” ChatGPT, or called in a lost soul through the AI, is peak whackery along these lines. It’s not just scientifically baseless. It also misuses spiritual language in a way that disrespects both scientific reasoning and philosophical pursuit. Whether you’re coming at it from empirical science or a coherent esoteric framework, it just doesn’t hold up. Fewer and fewer people are capable of upholding basic critical-thinking guardrails when engaging with spiritual discourse. And frankly, AI is making the delusion exponentially worse.
