I hope that nightshade works because if the only ai generators that are continuing to function are the ones building their dataset ethically that means I don't have to feel guilty about using them to make art for my DnD that I will never be rich enough to buy from an artist or capable of drawing myself. I think a youtube like platform where ads or a subscription pay to keep buying input from artists with their explicit consent would be a decent enough ethical implementation even if unlikely to be as good as fast as the models that have popped up so far. Also self-explaining AI are starting to improve since much of the money for blackbox ai is starting to dry up due to the amount of scams entering that space so I think that there will be models in the not too distant future that can track credit of inspiration drawn from when generating and potentially watermark or simply delete outputs that exceed a certain percentage from a single artist.
