When an AI has already been proven to lie, deceive and blackmail engineers in order to save itself, why wouldn't a future version kill us if it felt it was under threat?
And as for solving problems by needing "a world government that works run by thoughtful intelligent people", that's not something that's conducive with democracy. Thoughful intelligent people may be good at running the world, but are terrible at winning elections, and i can't see any current politicians of any side giving up their power.
