I'm waiting for the day someone decides to enforce the law on AI. Only human made art is copyrightable, that's a hard fact.
As a result, AI mimicking existing art is not legally creating new art. Instead it is legally infringing on copyrights by the artists used for training. So "in the style of" art, for artists who's work has not entered the public domain done by AI is copyright infringement. If it includes the artist's signature, it's also forgery.
More fun is if there is no discernable source. Because an AI artist can only copyright the human contribution, he can try to copyright the AI inputs, but not the outputs. That means that any AI art posted to the web is free to reuse, licensing protections not possible. The only source of protection these people have is from other people who signed the TOS of that same AI, if the TOS includes clauses to that effect. hmm... Make sme wanna go onto the web, start scraping AI art, and offer access to the full collection as a service.
