Why are they bothering with LLMs? How does that do any of the nation's work that needs doing? It only helps people shirk work in an endless cycle of jabbering. A nation needs work for incomes for everyone, not for some. It needs products that emerge from new science discoveries. It needs materials and processing, which requires machines for dangerous work such that can survive without cave-ins, Black Lung Disease, Mesothelioma, high/low-temp, high pressures or low, poison atmosphere, toxic exposure, and the like. BS machines are not worthy of a dime of investment. Intracontinental water solutions and energy transfers are critical now, where local sourcing isn't possible, but do these geeks have a clue? The miracle of "The Digital Age" has been a promise fulfilled with more worker hours for lower real returns, many fallen-out of the workforce and not replaced by those without common language skills and being chased for documents. Why doesn't AI focus on machines that flow without stopping or accident passing through rush-hour traffic? Why don't machines pick all of the crops we have to import, owing to handpicking labor costs. Why doesn't AI want to do anything practical? It just wants to play word games, .....and to cheat on Wall Street. We have a big problem in the US, where money is made by hoodwinks and bailouts, not risking the hazards of industrial upswings and down. Foreign supplies and labor are inexhaustible, and in search of returns quickly, we've sacrificed the intended benefits of spinoffs from our public university research investments. We can expect AI to refine sports betting before replacing our dependence on oil and gas, those markets that we've watched creating wars endlessly. What scientific research has been accomplished in direct energy capture? What has it provided in new and better goods and services? AI is a billionaire toy that only promises to lay off more engineers and clerics, and especially, leaning-out the ranks of management tiers. It hopes to prey on our mass media-managed public sentiments and sway crowds to inane positions of conscience. Will that replace FOX news? It steals energy from residents and water from farmers? Do we really need better movies and entertainment toys, rather than tools for a fair distribution of abundance in consumer necessities, for logistics, for better long-lasting products, for more jobs for more consumption and more revenues? We don't need better globally-connected video game graphics for another generation of couch potato kids. Get real, will you?
