There’s no controversy. Artists who learned from all other artists before them are complaining that an AI will learn from all other artists before them.
Art is derivative. The argument against AI learning is an argument against artists being allowed to learn.
If artists genuinely believe this logic, then by their own logic, they’re fighting for their own right to plagiarize. They’re claiming a monopoly on unabashed plagiarism. That, or they’re lying, and just want to protect their “job” upon realizing an AI can do it better and faster within the next 5 years.
