This has to be the laziest, most ridiculous argument against Universal Basic Income I've ever heard since "People will just by drugs with it." This guy's argument is basically: An Uber executive brought up U.B.I. out-of-the-blue when asked about their business model of training A.I. to replace their human drivers. So CLEARLY universal basic income is just an excuse used by corporations to not pay their employees a living wage. ...what?! I'm genuinely disappointed in Big Think. They're better than this. There are so many problems with his bull-crap false equivalency "argument" I don't know where to begin. Let's say Uber did bring up U.B.I. when discussing the fact that they are developing A.I. to replace their drivers. That has nothing to do with them not wanting to pay their employees a living wage. It has everything to do with AUTOMATION. They are being replaced, just like truck drivers, and store clerks, etc... Why he came up with the idea that U.B.I. is this Machiavellian concept thought up by some evil corporate entity so they can pay their employees less is just either an error in thinking on his part or a flat out lie. Also, U.B.I. is not "the government printing money out of thin air" it would have to come from some place like Andrew Yang's proposal of using a VAT. This guy has to be getting paid by someone looking to spread misinformation. Who that is I have no idea. These days it could be any number of groups who would hate to see people actually getting the help they need. Because then we wouldn't need them to "fix" the mess we're in and they could stay in power. Andrew Yang scares the hell out of both sides of the isle for this exact reason.
