The problem with AI is the same as with any other industry in a capitalist country. The drive is not to do good for humanity, the drive is to make MONEY and have POWER. You have an AI company, you are driven to satisfy your investors; you do not produce or you are reticent in your drive to make money, you are toast, you will be fired and the board will put someone else in charge who is ruthless and wary of being fired. Whatever Dario says does not matter, his company continues unimpeded in their development of AI, otherwise someone else may surpass them. He can cry wolf all he wants but the fact is that we do not have effective leadership to review and regulate AI. During the growth of the industrial revolution, much slower than the AI era, pollution and destruction of the environment increased at an alarming rate. Did the companies self-regulate in order to avoid or control pollution? No, people and the government had to regulate the industries to prevent rampant pollution. But as anyone can see, these measures to control our fossil fuels industry has become political and many are opposed to regulating our industry and they would rather have the environment harmed than lose jobs. AI is developing at the speed of light, literally. Where are the regulators? Making more last century wars! A congress dominated by cowards and incompetents who are using their government positions to make more money and conserve political power that they could not have before. Look at trumpf, hegseth, noem, patel, et al. All incompetents who were given positions by a democratic system that never saw half its voting population becoming sheeple. AI is scary because while humans think they can put it in a sandbox and control it, look behind you now, it's out!
