The "AI is theft" claim is extremely dangerous for independent artists. If Midjourney needed to get every independent artist to actively opt-in to train its model, why didn't Warner Bros. have to opt-in when you practiced drawing Marvin the Martian in middle school? Training has never required the active opt-in of the original artist, and if it suddenly starts to, it ain't independent artists who are going to benefit -- Disney will end up owning everything. IP laws don't exists to protect the small guy, and the small guy should be super wary of cheering on the big guy when he's advocating for a radical expansion of IP rights.
