Well ideally, when combined suffifiently advanced AI with suffifiently advanced physical machinery what should happen is that whoever is in control of the resouces, would:
1:Use the robots to mass produce for free bare necessities: sufficient housing, sufficient nutrients, medical necessities, sanitation, education, sufficient fabrics, sufficient electricity and sufficient security. Those people whose jobs will be required to supervise the providing of those things (if any are needed at all, ideally none shall be needed) will be paid by simply having robots produce their luxury itms for free. So it'll be either some form of wage from shares rather than payment techno-utopian captialism, or techno-utopian socialism with basically taxes and technology solving everything, or techno-utopian communism.
2: Use robots to mass produce luxury items: examples of which are: Confectionary, toys, cosmetics, jewlery, entertainment items, lavish clothing and so on. Those luxury items will need to be paid for by people who will earn their money via mostly working in factories with robots doing almost absoloutly all of the manual labour with humans doing little else besides simply monitoring them, and their wages will come in the form of shares. So essentially the workers will be the direct owners of the means of luxury item production.
3: the jobs people will have in robot factories will be on a rotation basis spread out amongst the masses so people would only spend at most 2 or 3 hours a week working, being paid a decent wage and spending the rest of their time living like present day millionaires because the luxury items will be laughably cheaper than they are now and in much more supply and in so much cpacity for variability that differences in taste will be practically no problem.
In short what we'd have ideally would be a perfect technological utopia where desired products would be in such infinite supply, so cheap, and what human labour being needed would be so easy, with no capacity for exploitation, that it'd be like Star Trek's " I Mudd" episode.
But of course, such a future would require a massive amount of cooperation, ingenuity, intelligence, serious knowledge, compassion, patience, humility, committment and change. Traits which sadly are rare in today's age.
And if we overpopulate and become insatiable eventually even with advanced technology, the economy will collapse.
As Ghandi put it: the world has enough resources for human need, but not human greed.
