On the subject of "doesn't work", over time won't the poison just train the AI to ignore irrelevant data? Is there something about the poison thats supposed to stop this? You briefly mention something similar in "ai is inevitable" and then never actually address it. For "not stealing, inspired" - You immediately shift away and start talking whether its creative. Still a good discussion to have but its avoiding the point you're supposedly addressing, feels like you're not debating in good faith. "For reference" - For an artist yeah its not a good use, I see this argument having more validity in other fields though. Someone might make a quick render of how a room might look with certain furniture if they're trying to stage it before they commit to buying, wouldn't be hard to feed it the images needed. "ai is inevitable" - In art, maybe not, in general it probably is. Saying its not profitable is the same argument you could use against a lot of things, we've been working on fusion with no profit for a long time and pretty much everything you said could have been said about computers when they were first being developed. At this point though the cat is kinda out of the bag, you can download models and run them for free so its not like its going to go away, just might die down in popularity. Its already had some use in the medical field with protein folding predictions saving people years if not decades of work, no reason they wouldn't keep expanding it so it can do similar in other areas. "ai is an art tool" - Completely agree with you here, its definitely a bad comparison. Interestingly though there is a better one, if you go read about the introduction of cameras you will see a lot of discourse on the subject that lines up almost 1 for 1 with arguments about AI, lots of talk about it being soulless and ruining the field of art. Heres a quote from Charles Baudelaire in 1859 for example: "it is nonetheless obvious that this industry, by invading the territories of art, has become art’s most mortal enemy, and that the confusion of their several functions prevents any of them from being properly fulfilled. ... If photography is allowed to supplement art in some of its functions, it will soon have supplanted or corrupted it altogether, thanks to the stupidity of the multitude which is its natural ally.", just replace photography with AI. Just find it amusing seeing the similarities.
